BELIEVE & Keep Swimming

Thursday, March 28th, 2024

I’m thankful today for a post I happened to see on FaceBook.  I shared it there, but I felt impressed to share it here as well.

Kerry Arnott posted the following:

“During a study at Harvard in the 1950s, Dr. Curt Richter placed rats in a pool of water to test how long they could tread water.

On average they’d give up and sink after 15 minutes.

But right before they gave up due to exhaustion, the researchers would pluck them out, dry them off, let them rest for a few minutes – and put them back in for a second round.

In this second try – how long do you think they lasted?

Remember – they had just swam until failure only a few short minutes ago…

How long do you think?

Another 15 minutes?

10 minutes?

5 minutes?

60 hours!

That’s not an error.

That’s right! 60 hours of swimming.

The conclusion drawn was that since the rats BELIEVED that they would eventually be rescued, they could push their bodies way past what they previously thought impossible.

I will leave you with this thought:

If hope can cause exhausted rats to swim for that long, what could a belief in yourself and your abilities, do for you?

Remember what you’re capable of. Remember why you’re here. ”

I love this— Not the cruelty to the animals part, but the fact that with belief, we are capable of incredible feats!!

We are enough!!  We can keep going!!

God is over our curriculum and it will be 50/50.  Unlike this experiment, God is NOT cruel, but full of the most genuine, transformational love imaginable.  He will NOT let us drown!!  BUT- he will allow us the perfect conditions for growth.

If you are going through a “perfect condition for growth” experience right now and feel like you’ve been treading water for 60 hours- keep swimming!!

The truth is, you are stronger than your challenge. Don’t give up!!  AND don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Hang on.  God’s plan for us is so much more grand and beautiful than we could ever imagine.

Another quote I’m grateful for this week:

“You know who is going through a lot right now? Literally everyone.  Just be kind.”

You are not alone.

Lastly, I am so thankful for this promise:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew [11:28])

If you feel like you are swimming for your life take it to Christ.  Let Him carry you.

As we celebrate Easter this weekend, let this holiday trigger you to more fully “come unto Christ.”
