Gateway Emotions

Hello my friends!!

On this Thursday morning, I am thankful for the power of “Gateway Emotions”.

If you’ve worked with me, you understand that the emotions we operate from are the fuel for our actions.  Operating our life from stress, overwhelm, depression, frustration, anger, irritation etc. will shut us down. It’s like using diesel fuel in a vehicle that requires unleaded.  We know these kinds of emotions don’t serve us, but how do we get out of these low-frequency funks?

We are human, with a strong tendency to run on default mode, especially when life gets tough. Once we are aware that we are sabotaging ourselves by sinking into bitterness, frustration, disappointment, self-doubt, insecurity, etc. how do we “snap out of it”?

There are many tactics to “flip the switch” in order to go from survival mode to thriving mode, from lower brain driving to higher brain taking over control.  One of my favorite ways to do this is to use “Gateway Emotions”.

Gateway emotions bridge the gap between low-frequency and high frequency emotions. Gratitude and Curiosity are my gateway emotions of choice.  I am so thankful for the power of gratitude and curiosity to allow me to pivot— to shift the trajectory of my day when I find it hard to show up as my best.

As I always say, “gratitude is a magnet for miracles”. When we are stuck in a craptastic mood, it is truly miraculous that we can create a purposeful change in our mentality. Accessing gratitude, even in the depths of our darkest moods, does just that. Try it!! Ask yourself, “What is awesome about this?”  Put on your “perspectacles” and look at your life through the lens of gratitude.  You will go from self-pity, despair, dread… to gratitude, and then on up toward Love, Faith, Abundance, Grace…. Gratitude is a magnet for miracles.

“Get curious, not furious” and “Get fascinated, not frustrated” are 2 of my favorite sayings. If we can remember to apply curiosity to our charged situations and relationships, the results will be refreshingly astounding. To access curiosity, ask yourself, “I wonder why…” or  “It is so interesting that … I wonder what’s behind that?” Curiosity dampens escalating emotions and is the next rung in the ladder leading to acceptance, love, faith, confidence… Get curious, not furious.

Have you noticed the power of these gateway emotions? What are some other gateway emotions you’ve found effective in your life? Please email me and let me know!!  I’m always on the hunt for powerful tools that help magnify this beautiful, messy life we are in the trenches of.

On this gorgeous spring morning, my challenge for you is to use gateway emotions. I am so thankful for this tool!! The next time you notice yourself sinking into a bad mood, call upon gratitude and curiosity to lift your spirits.  Think thoughts that generate Curiosity and Gratitude to pull you out of feeling low. Let me know how it goes!!

Gratefully yours,

Candice Noss
